Remembering Choreography

Remembering Choreography

When dancers are given new choreography, it can be difficult to learn it quickly and remember the new movement until the next lesson! There are some tips however that can help dancers when remembering choreography and learning movement quickly.

  1. Split choreography up into smaller chunks, and don’t bite off more than you can chew.
  2. Use counts or find ‘landmarks’ in your movement. This will help you remember which section comes next.
  3. Visualize the choreography with the music. Teach your brain before you teach your body.

At Myriad, our dance teachers are very aware of the choreography that our students are capable of. Our students are given these tools and reminded often that remembering choreography can be tricky, but that they are capable!
