This class is the perfect preparation music class for more formal lessons later on.

Music for the YOUNG CHILD for children ages 4 1/2 - 7 years old is a pressure-free class which prepares children with the skills they will need to succeed in, piano/keyboard, guitar or wind/brass instrument instruction for ages 6 & up. Children learn to play authentic pre-keyboard, stringed and wind instruments that they also take home with them. Here, your child will begin the process of reading music, notes and rhythms.

Our YOUNG CHILD graduates leave the program reading notes and rhythm, playing their melodies on the glockenspiel, dulcimer and recorder, knowing all the instruments of the orchestra and which instrument they would like to play. They jump into our school's instrumental and voice studios full of enthusiasm and an ability to feel and express the music with their whole being. These children will be musicians for a lifetime!

HANDS-ON KEYBOARD PLAY TOO! At our music school, we have enhanced this excellent curriculum with keyboard related activities in every Music for the Young Child class. Take-home keyboard aids will to help your children explore your home piano in a way that relates to their glockenspiel, dulcimer or recorder songs.

Children and families may join mid-year at any point.

What is the magic behind this curriculum’s preparation for future piano, guitar or violin lessons? Why is this a wise, age-appropriate choice?

Parents sometimes ask us if their child should be taking piano lessons at age 4 or 5. We know that children enjoy exploring their pianos at home at an early age, experimenting with playing & singing their own invented tunes. This is a wonderful, natural occurrence. However, this is very different from being required to sit at a piano bench for a 30 min. piano lesson weekly, and following through with reading complex symbols and tricky hand coordination at home. By focusing on age-appropriate musical symbols, hands-together mallet coordination on the glockenspiel, dulcimer, or recorder (using the same notes as the piano, guitar, violin, & flute), we are teaching reading, playing & singing with gentle homework activities.These Young Child students are learning & succeeding naturally with age-appropriate activities. They do not get frustrated or ask to quit their lessons. Parents do not need to sit with these children and do their homework for them, as is the case with many classes that have 4 or 5 year olds taking piano lessons.MORE HANDS - ON KEYBOARD PLAY: Starting at the end of January, we will be enhancing our curriculum by adding more piano correlation concepts during class. Take-home keyboard aids will to help your children explore your home piano in a way that relates to their glockenspiel, dulcimer or recorder songs.

TUITION & MATERIALS
$25 per 50 minute class
Enrollment is for the 10 month school year
Students are promoted to next level / program in February and can keep the same class time within the Young Child schedule. Students moving on to Piano Team, Recorder Choir, Children's Choir or Private Lesson after completing their level may do so in February as well.
Pro-rated tuition for mid-year enrollment.
